The Vice-Chancellor, Benue State
University, Makurdi, Prof. Msugh Moses Kembe has Instituted a Holy
Assembly to seek God’s divine intervention in the administration of the
University.
The Holy Assembly according to him, is
necessitated by the frequent deaths of Staff, incessant strikes by
Unions and other forms of evil forces in the University.
Towards this end, a monthly fasting and
prayer sessions has been introduced in the university to be held last
Sunday of every month.
The inaugural fasting and prayer session
was held at the Good Shepherd Catholic Chaplaincy on Sunday, February
28, 2016 to pray for long life and peaceful retirement of the University
Staff.
Preaching during the session, the
Chaplain, Good Shepherd’s Catholic Chaplaincy, Benue State University,
Rev. Fr. Dr. Pius Ajiki said God always select a leader to lead his
people in a community, hence leaders should follow the tenets of God to
do His will on earth.
Fr. Ajiki called on the congregation to
be faithful to God and urged leaders to always remember the less
privileged in society to give them a sense of belonging.
As the Chairman, Fasting and Prayer
Sessions Committee, Fr. Ajiki reminded the University community to
dedicate their lives to God in order to allow the will of God to be done
in the University. Stressing that the Programme was instituted to
commit the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure unto God and to seek God’s divine
intervention in the affairs of the University.
Addressing the University community, the
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Msugh Moses Kembe, thanked God for what he has
been able to achieve since assumption.
He explained that the monthly fasting
and prayer sessions was instituted due to incessant deaths, strike by
Unions and also to seek God divine intervention in the affairs of the
University.
Prof. Kembe disclosed that a 10-member
Standing Committee has been constituted with Revd Fr Pius Ajiki as the
Chairman, to coordinate the fasting and prayer sessions for peace,
harmony, progress and development to thrive in the University. The
Programme will be rotational among the two churches on campus, he added.
Prof. Nicholas Ada, former Minister,
Foreign Affairs and Dr. David Orjime, Senior Catechist of the Chaplaincy
commended the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative and solicited for its
sustenance.
Highlights of the programme was intercessory prayers for the University, Staff and Students.
Principal Officers, Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, Coordinators, Unit Heads, staff and students attended the Programme.
