7 Students bag first class degrees as Benue State University holds combined Convocation Ceremony

​Seven persons came out with first class degrees at the 16th and 17th combined convocation ceremony of the Benue State University, Makurdi.

According to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Msugh Kembe, The University conferred a total of 12,388 degrees and diplomas on graduands in various deciplines as follows:

  •  Bachelor's degrees            - 10,248 
  • Masters degrees                - 1,522 
  • PhD degrees                      - 149
  • Postgraduate diplomas       - 469 

Honorary Degrees were conferred on the following distinguished Nigerians: 
  1.  Late Dr. Athanasius Atule Usuh ( Doctor of Letters - Posthumous)
  2. Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Gabriel Al-Amin El- Kanemi, CFR (Doctor of Letters)
  3. Mr. Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele,CON (Doctor of Letters)
  4. Chief Mike Okibe Onoja,CON (Doctor of Letters) 

                     According to Prof. Msugh Kembe, He said that the university, which took off in 1992 with a student population of 305, had grown to 24,079 students over the years. the carrying capacity has been expanded with more facilities such as lecture halls, hostels and other infrastructure. “We have also increased Academic faculties from four to seven, while a Post-Graduate School and College of Health Sciences were established in 1998. He called for additional funding to enable the institution executes its Programmes.

                     Gov Samuel Ortom, in his speech, praised the founder of the University, the late Rev. Fr. Moses Adasu, Benue Governor in the third republic, for his foresight. He promised that government would place the institution on its first line charge to enable it enjoy special attention, and challenged the graduates to be innovative and creative.
