Provost, fresh graduates laud Gov Ortom over accreditation of medical school

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences of Benue State University, Makurdi, Professor Simeon Adebisi, has commended the Governor Samuel Ortom for breaking the jinx of lack of accreditation in the institution.


The provost who led the management of the College and third graduating set on a courtesy call to the Governor at the Benue Peoples House, also praised Governor Ortom’s efforts in ensuring that staff of the institution are paid their salaries despite the economic downturn.


He, however, said issues of subvention, lack of carrying capacity, study aids and staffing still persisted in the institution and urged the Governor to intervene.


Similarly, the President of the set, Dr Tarlumun Surma, expressed appreciation to Governor Ortom for ensuring that they graduated after spending 10 and half years in medical school.


He solicited financial assistance to his classmates to enable them to obtain practising licenses.


Dr. Surma also announced that his set would offer free medical services to people in the Governor’s village as a gesture of appreciation for his role in their graduation.


Responding, Governor Ortom assured that inspite of the financial challenges of the state he would bend backwards to pay the subvention so that the College could continue to produce medical doctors.



He also agreed to pay for the licence of the 28 doctors of the third set and to also attend their oath taking ceremony.
The Governor who acknowledged the contributions of his predecessors in the successes recorded at the College stressing that he was happy that his dream of becoming a medical doctor was being realized indirectly through the youths of the state.



Recall that prior to the Governor’s intervention, the first set of medical students endured 12 years of stagnation due to delays in accreditation.
