The management of Benue State University, Makurdi have promised to assist students who are unable to afford the new school fees structure bloated by the introduction of conditional charges.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Moses Kembe made this commitment when addressing protesting students earlier today who were insisting that the conditional charges be scrapped.
According to Professor Kembe, the University had already put together measures to assist students who cannot afford to new school fees, while urging buoyant students to make efforts to pay and resume.
” …So that we don’t loose a whole session, that’s why I insisted, along with NUBESS (National Union of Benue State Students) and SU (Students Union) presidents that we should continue.
” For new students, it won’t work. I told you, there are two sets of admission now. If we delay too much, waiting on government and all that…
” We have avenues to people who are indigent who will help them pay their school fees. Let them come so we can admit them.
” But for those of you who God has blessed like me and can pay for school fees, let them pay. For those who don’t have, let them come and meet me.” He said.
The students however have remained adamant to the calls by the management to resume, insisting to wait on the decision of the State Assembly who have already summoned the Vice Chancellor and Commissioner for Education.
