The Vice-Chancellor, Benue State University, Makurdi, Prof. Msugh
Moses Kembe has advocated sustained collaboration with the Church in the
moulding of the character of the youths who are the future leaders of
tomorrow.
The Vice-Chancellor stated this while addressing Pastors and Elders of NKST Church, Iortyer during a Courtesy call in his office at the weekend.
Prof. Kembe stated that youths are assets of the society, hence the need to guide their moral and spiritual upbringing.
He commended the leaders for spiritual guidance and counselling to students in their Church and promised to sustain the synergy during his tenure for better result.
According to him, the University has as its core mandate three distinct areas, namely, Teaching, Research and Community service all of which he said will be vigorously pursued during his tenure.
Speaking for the delegation, the Pastor, NKST Church, Iortyer, Revd Akpen Levah stated that their visit was to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor on his appointment and stated that as Church located on campus, it has its congregation drawn from some members of the University Community who are either staff of students, hence the need for both community to cultivate a cordial relationship.
Pastor Akpen further informed that through sermons and other programmes of the Church, they are able to educate Students on indecent dressing, Examination malpractice, Cultism and other vices that are inimical to society.
The State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) also revealed that the church is in partnership with the University in area of security surveillance which he promised they would not relent and called on the Vice-Chancellor to remain focus for academic and infrastructural development of the institution.
