BSU TO INTRODUCE SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMME



Benue State University, Makurdi will soon develop a Curriculum for the teaching of Special Education Programme in the Faculty of Education to afford the Physically Challenged and the disabled in the State acquire sound and qualitative education.


The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Msugh Moses Kembe disclosed this when he granted audience to the Forum of Blind Workers, Gwer West Local Government Area at the weekend.


Professor Kembe expressed satisfaction that despite their disability, they have not taken to street begging, hence the need for them to receive formal education in order to improve on their living standard and be gainfully employed.


On the Forum’s request for employment, the Vice-Chancellor informed them of an existing embargo on employment but promised to assist when it is lifted.

He also promised to take their plight to the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Samuel Ortom for necessary action.


Earlier, the spokesperson for the Forum, Comrade Thomas Anakula, alias “Handsomeman of Mbabuande”, explained that their visit was to congratulate Professor Msugh Moses Kembe on his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor and also request him to establish a Unit in the University where blind people could also acquire University education.


The Forum also requested for the employment of one of them as the Vice-Chancellor’s Aide in order to encourage other organizations to patronize its members.


He further appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to take their plight to the Executive Governor, Benue State, Samuel Ortom to upset their outstanding salaries to enhance their living standard in the society since they have no other means of income than the salary.
