The Benue State Executive Council arising from its meeting yesterday, described the strike action embarked upon by non-academic staff unions of Benue State University as unnecessary and uncalled for.
According to a statement by the Commissioner, Information and Orientation, Ode Ageh, it was not fair for the workers to embark on strike now considering the state’s financial problems.
The council however directed the management of institution to dialogue with the unions so as to suspend their strike saying they were studying a report on the matter.
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) under the auspices of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) in Benue State University had Tuesday, embarked on a total and indefinite strike action over 6-year unpaid allowances.
