The Vice-Chancellor, Benue State University, Makurdi Prof. Msugh Moses Kembe, on Tuesday presented claims settlement cheques to next of kins of Ten (10) deceased staff of the University under a Group Life Policy Insurance with Joken Insurance-Brokers Limited.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the pains and sufferings they were passing through as a result of the demise of their breadwinners and urged them to look unto God for sustenance. He noted that the money would not replace their loved ones but it was the University’s little way of appreciating the deceased staff for the selfless service they rendered to the institution while alive.
Prof. kembe stressed that the University shared in their grief and it was based on that, the Scheme was put in place to ameliorate their sufferings.
He appealed to the beneficiaries to invest the money in useful ventures that would improve their financial and living standards and not to be cajoled by anyone with a proposal to help them invest the money for quick interest.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Sambe Philomena Eyong, thanked the University Management for remembering to pay them the entitlements and for being transparent with them in the transaction. She assured that the funds would be judiciously used for the welfare of family members.
The Sum of twenty-one million, four hundred and Seventy five thousand, four hundred and nineteen naira, nineteen kobo was disbursed to the beneficiaries with all the Principal Officers of the University in attendance.
